Unfortunately, Mel Broughton was found guilty (again) for animal rights related offences against Oxford University animal experiment lab. He will continue his original 10 year sentence given him in Feb 2009. He is presently at HMP Bullingdon, but we expect him to move.

Good news - Tre Arrow was released on 4th December 2009, but the news was only made public very recently. After nearly six years incarcerated in Canadian and US prisons, Tre is free! He gives an enormous serving of gratitude to all who supported him while he was imprisoned.

Good news - Mel Broughton was granted bail today with conditions that he doesn't enter the whole of Oxfordshire and that he can't be involved in animal rights in any way. At the moment it looks like his (third) trial will be in June.

Mel Broughton has his charges quashed on appeal - Mel had appealed against his conviction earlier this year and after taking more than a month to consider the verdict, Lord Justice Thomas returned to the Court of Appeal today to quash the conviction. Mel will now be facing yet another retrial on the charges, this will be his third trial (second retrial). There is no date for when this will happen at the moment and he remains in prison, though persumably he will now be considered a remand prisoner.

Grand Jury Resister, Carrie Feldman, has been moved again! We have received word that Carrie Feldman has been moved again, this time to Dubuque County Jail. She is being held on 23-hour lockdown. Carrie is now in “segregation”, doublespeak for solitary confinement. This is a tactic used by desperate prosecutors to coerce compliance in prisoners, in this case Carrie’s testimony regarding what prosecutors believe she may know about the 2004 liberation of 401 animals from the University of Iowa.

Dutch Mink Liberation prisoner - Following previous arrests of three others (who have all been bailed), a forth suspect in the mink liberation case in the Netherlands from October 2009 has now been arrested. A 23 year old male Dutch activist has been remanded in prison. He has spent 4 weeks remanded in another country and has now been extradited to the Netherlands, where he is still being held on remand. We do not currently know how long this will last. He is doing fine and he is getting vegan food.

Mason is a vegan for ethical, medical and spiritual reasons, but the prison has denied her vegan meals since her incarceration. Because of this, she has been in ill-health, suffering from symptoms like dizziness and extreme pain in her hands. We call on all supporters to contact the warden’s office and ask that her request for vegan food be approved. Please be very polite. Also note that currently (as of Wednesday, February 3rd) there is no Warden at Waseca. We expect that Warden English will be starting this position next week.

We have heard the good news that the two women (one Dutch, one German) who were imprisoned in Holland for alleged mink liberation have both been released! The two women were both very hungry upon their releases as they didn't get proper food inside and so a big vegan meal was awaiting them!

Carrie Feldman, an activist from Minneapolis, MN, who were subpoenaed to a federal grand jury in Iowa investigating animal rights vandalism from 2004. She is refusing to cooperate with the grand jury, and is in jail now for civil contempt of court.

Although the incident was not related to campaigning, he is in effect in prison for the original offence, which was for "offences" in connection with Highgate Rabbit Farm, which breeds

Approximately 3 weeks ago William "BJ" Viehl had his bail revoked and was taken back into custody. Prosecutors allege BJ had communicated with ALF/ELF prisoners, in violation of his bail terms. He expects to remain in custody until his trial.
And approximately one week ago, BJ's co-defendant Alex Hall also had his bail revoked and was taken into custody.

Dean Cain and Luke Steele were granted bail today, but sentencing of them and another co-accused will be on Friday 5th June. On Friday 8th May, Vikki the other co-defendant who had gone to trial had the case against her stopped by the judge with no case to answer.
